Isla Mujeres Trip

We arrived after having to get our own transportation, which we had pre-arranged and the hotel lost. When they let me know what room I had, they mentioned there was no window(!) So of course I was charged extra to get a room with a window. Then there was the part about my booking about my reservation not being all-inclusive. Which most of the staff made me uncomfortable about. The hotel is one of the originals, so it's a bit out dated. All in all this was an average stay if not for the beautiful ocean that made up for it. I would not recommend this hotel. And I feel they should let travelers know about rooms without a window. That might be important to someone.

We had booked a package, but upon check-in, they unexpectedly charged us. Later one night, my friends and I were dancing around the hotel when an employee rudely approached us, demanding to see our room key. Although we showed him the key, he insisted that each of us present our own. This upset my friends, but after I provided our room number, he finally backed off. It was a bad experience overall.

Not a great hotel experience for me. All inclusive but not much to eat and was more like school dinners. No ice cream anywhere in hotel, no fresh juice, only squash or highly watered concentrate. Very limited snacks, only small selection of cakes in a small limited coffee shop, I would have liked to see a snack bar/ice cream shop similar to the Wyndham Altra. Portion sizes are tiny, I was served a burger with just 5 fries and a portion of chicken wings was only 3 small wings. Meals smaller than a kids meal in McDonalds! Buffet restaurant is okay at best. There is a steak house but the sirloin is very thin, the “Baseball” cut was chewy, pork ribs were baby ribs and only 4 of them. The nice cuts of steak are $80 even if you are on an all inclusive package. Pool side chairs/beds were reserved with towels at 6am. There are signs saying chairs not attended within 30 mins will be cleared, but this is never enforced, so unless you also break the rules you won’t get a sun bed. Concierge staff unhelpful, only interested in sales. I asked 3 different staff about the El Ray archeology site, all confirmed it was open, but it was closed for renovation, and had been for some time. I was completely mis-sold a tour to Isla Mujeres that I was told met all my requirements when in fact it didn’t meet any and was entirely inappropriate for me. I enjoyed my holiday, despite the hotel, but I spent most of it on day trips due to limited activities/quality on site.
