Summer sees the peak season in Budapest – you’ll definitely get the weather but the air fares will get much higher. The city’s Sziget and Ballet Festivals are in August, pushing prices even higher.

Getting to Budapest from Ferenc Liszt International

Flights to Budapest touch down at Ferenc Liszt International (sometimes referred to as Ferihegy). This modern airport is just 13 miles from the city centre.

It’s an easy ride into the delights of the Hungarian capital on the number 200E bus from Terminal 2 to the Metro station. Here you can jump on the Metro line M3 towards Újpest Központ to reach the city centre.

Rather than purchase a single ticket you may wish to consider saving some money with a special pass that lets you use thermal baths, enter museums and enjoy unlimited travel during your stay.

A slightly more expensive – but more convenient option – is to take the private minibus service. You won’t have to change but, depending on the number of door-to-door stops ahead of you, it may end up taking longer.

How to get to and around in Budapest

While the Metro may offer the most efficient form of transport it’s impossible to see the sights when you are underground. For a more scenic way to get around the city consider making use of the BKK boat service, which runs passenger ferries along the glorious Danube.
