A holiday in Baztán is a window to a lush valley where there are 15 different villages, as well as several neighbourhoods and hamlets. It is an excellent opportunity to get to know the upper basin of the Bidasoa River in the northern part of Navarre, which borders France. In addition, the valley is a magical place wrapped in a mysterious halo.
The capital of the Baztán Valley is Elizondo, a beautiful place that stretches along both sides of the Bidasoa. This city offers all kinds of services for travellers (restaurants, bars, shops, etc.), but without losing the essence of the people of Navarre. A highlight among its houses with traditional architectural details is the Parish of Santiago, a Gothic wonder. But the most beautiful scene is, without a doubt, the houses overlooking the river.
Take advantage of thecheap trips to Baztánto reconnect with nature. If you head north from Elizondo, you will enter the heart of the valley and you can see green landscapes dotted with etxes, the homesteads. There are many of these traditional homes in Amaiur, a place that is accessed through a beautiful arch and that retains the essence of its past.
Further north is the Otxondo Pass, a Pyrenean mountain pass that offers excellent views of the valley. It is a great place to rest and picnic or explore the bunkers that are still in the vicinity. From here, just 20 minutes away is the Cueva de Zugarramurdi, a cave famous for being the setting of sorcerers’ meetings. In fact, in the homonymous municipality you can also visit the highly interesting Museum of Witches.
Several towns in the Baztán valley have intercity bus stops, so you can visit them using public transport. However, a car is necessary to get into the different places of the valley and to get closer to more isolated places. We recommend that you check out our holiday packages in Baztán, because this way you can include a rental vehicle in your reservation and save at the same time.
