Arena Gorda Beach is a spacious stretch of sand, where a gentle slope and calm conditions make it well-suited for swimming and popular among families. Relish the postcard-perfect views, try watersports and splash around in the surf.
The name Arena Gorda translates to “fat sands,” which is believed to reference its wide sweep of sand. It’s been awarded Blue Flag status for its cleanliness and facilities. The beach's well-equipped shores are mostly frequented by those staying in nearby resorts.
Bring along the whole family and settle in to a comfortable spot on this scenic beach. Some umbrellas and sun loungers are reserved for resort patrons, but you may be able to find shelter under a palm tree instead. Although the beach is relatively popular, it is rarely crowded.
Look for the information boards on the beach. These provide details about the current conditions as well as conduct codes. Spend an afternoon basking in the sun and delighting in the picturesque setting. Note the striking blue colour of the water. The sand here is lovely and fine, so kick off your shoes and enjoy a barefoot walk, while watching the lapping waves.
Let the kids play in the water or go for a dip yourself. Lifeguards are on duty here, so you can rest assured both you and your children are in safe hands. If you fancy exercising, play a game of volleyball or sign up for watersports, such as kitesurfing or snorkeling. Embark on boating excursions or opt to simply lie back and enjoy doing nothing.
Arena Gorda beach is located in Punta Cana about a 15-minute drive southeast of El Macao and a 10-minute drive northeast of Friusa. Parking is available, though it’s located about 656 feet (200 metres) back from the shoreline. To get here from the parking lot, walk through the hotel zone.
