The city of Wehr is located in southern Baden close to the border to Switzerland. It is situated only 18 miles to the east of Basel. Wehr and Öflingen are the two districts in this city which was first mentioned in records in the year 1092. During your city trip, discover historic buildings in Wehr, like the Schönau Old and New Castle at guildhall plaza, as well as many shops and cosy restaurants. For a special experience during your mini-break in Wehr, go for a hike on the Wehratal adventure path with more than 1,100 yards’ difference in altitude. Along the 16 miles from the Wehra spring to its mouth at the Rhine River, you will encounter 30 stations providing information about geology, ecology, forestry and water use. Some sections of the hiking path are barrier-free.
Wehr is also the terminus of the Schluchtensteig path which takes visitors in six stages along 73 miles and many gorges and falls through the Upper Black Forest. With some good fortune, you may even see chamois while on your way through exciting nature on a certified hiking path.
On hot summer days, the Wehrer Parkbad invites you to cool down. This outdoor pool is beautifully located right at the Wehraschlucht gorge and in the midst of picturesque nature. A giant slide, diving towers and a playground will provide entertainment for the entire family. In close proximity to the pool, be sure to visit the leisure centre Frankenmatt. Play 18 holes of mini golf or some table tennis whilst on your short trip to Wehr.
