shops and eating places. Chose where locals are likely to eat for good quality and reasonable prices.
Do NOT go to the nearest tourist restaurants where they will do anything and lie to get you sat down and then saddle you with the most expensive dishes. Walk past Taksim Square into Taksim proper.
not a lot going on at the square - main purpose was the metro stop for us!
