Along with the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of the city’s iconic sights. Apart from its function as car, train and pedestrian access between the northern and southern shores of the city, the bridge has become more than a feat of engineering it is synonymous with the city itself. The bridge is also a key part of Sydney’s New Year’s celebrations, taking centre stage of the fireworks extravaganza based around its structure.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a remarkable landmark that holds numerous record—it was the world’s longest span bridge until very recently and was the tallest structure in Sydney from 1932 to 1967.
If you only have a short time to spend in Sydney, the bridge is a great way to appreciate the full beauty of the city. Enjoy a leisurely stroll across the 1.25 kilometre length of the structure. There are pedestrian pathways on the bridge so you can enjoy the 30-minute walk in complete safety. Take along a camera to capture the amazing views of the Sydney Opera House, harbour and surrounding area.
If you’re not afraid of heights, the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb is a must, offering incredible panoramic views of the entire city. Don your jumpsuit and let the guides take care of you as you start your 3.5-hour ascent. Fleeces, rain jackets and hats all are provided if the weather isn’t so good. The bridge climbs are popular so it’s best to book in advance. The climbs are not too difficult and there are plenty of resting points along the way where you can also gather information. You won’t believe the spectacular views when you finally reach the top! Alternatively, visit the southeast pylon where you can walk at your own pace. Take the 200 steps to the Pylon lookout and learn about the history of the bridge on its three floors of exhibits. There’s an admission fee to enter the Pylon Lookout, which is open daily, except for Christmas Day.
Access to the bridge from the downtown side is via the Bridge Stairs on Cumberland Street in The Rocks area. A small number of metered parking spaces are available.

4/5 - Good
You can cross the bridge by foot (including the, rather expensive, "bridge walk" train or car. The best "free" view is from the Barangaroo Reserve (just follow the path hugging the shore).

Do the walk round the par adjacent to the bridge for the best view (or get a train, car or even walk over - they all use the bridge)
