As early as the 16th century Sodertalje was an established trade and merchant port, and still today it boasts one of Sweden's largest commercial harbours. The reason that most houses in Sodertalje are wooden is that back then it was considered unnecessary to spend money on more expensive materials like brick for a simple trading town. Go on a guided cruise in the world's oldest coal fired propeller driven steamship the S/S Ejdern. During the summer the cruise departs from Borgmastarudden. The daring can even go on a Surstromming Cruise, and try the Swedish odorous rarity of fermented herring.

Discover the royal summer residence Tullgarn from the 18th century, and enjoy the beautiful interior decor and the peaceful gardens. It is easy to get to Sodertalje, which is located close to a motorway and has its own train station. The motorways E4 and E20 merge in Sodertalje, and allow you to reach the town from both north and south.
