Stevns is situated on an idyllic peninsula, straddled by Faxe Bugt on one side and Koge Bugt on the other. There’s a fascinating exhibit here about the unique “fish clay” rock strata in the bluff. It dates back to the time Denmark and Northern Europe were submerged under the sea and contains fossils of sharks, crocodiles, and more.
A holiday or weekend stay in Stevns, however, offers more to experience than just the bluff. Visit the fascinating Koldkrigsmuseum Stevnsfort (Stevns’ Fort Cold War Museum), where you can tour extensive corridors nearly 60 feet below sea level. The fort was an important element in the military defence tactics of Denmark and NATO during the cold war era and for 40 years was manned and on full alert 24/7.
