The Old Town of Oviedo comprises an array of stunning and intriguing churches, historic plazas and museums. Among the highlights of the district is the Church of San Isidoro, which has an intricate façade with a tall tower rising from its side. It overlooks the large and spacious Constitution Plaza that marks the city center. Learn the history of the region in the Archaeological Museum of Asturias, housed in the 16th-century Benedictine monastery of San Vicente. Visit the Church of San Juan (Iglesia de San Juan el Real), where General Franco got married. Relax in the verdant fields of the Campo de San Francisco park and walk along the commercial avenue of Calle Uria that flanks it.

The historic center is in central Oviedo, a short walk south from the Oviedo railway station. Get around the old quarter’s periphery by bus and explore pedestrianized parts on foot.
