North Beach Interstate 10 is the closest beach to the city of Lake Charles and a popular social gathering place. It sits on the north shore of Lake Charles with views of the city, rivers and wetlands. Spend a day hanging out in the sunshine, playing games and picnicking at North Beach Interstate 10.
The beach is a short strip of soft white sand framed by grass verges. It lays claim to being one of the only white-sand inland beaches between the states of Florida and Texas. Have fun building sandcastles with the children, paddle in the shoreline and join in games of beach volleyball. Crowds gather in the evening to watch as the sun drifts down behind the bayous of southwest Louisiana.
A paved promenade leads from the western edge of the beach to the Cypress Pond, where it's possible to see alligators swimming and basking in the sunshine. Turtles and waterfowl also inhabit the pond. From here you can continue along the promenade to Veterans Memorial Park, home to a World War II tank, Vietnam War helicopter and 9/11 memorial. Stop by the Lake Charles Visitor Center, adjacent to the pond, to find out about current events taking place in the city.
There’re no shops at the beach so bring your own food and set up a picnic. On the eastern side is an area with sheltered picnic tables and benches. Watch catamarans, dinghies and sailboats launch at the Lake Charles Yacht Club. The marina is the starting point for regattas and weekly yacht races on the lake. Come in June to take advantage of free sailing classes.
North Beach Interstate 10 is about 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) to the east of downtown Lake Charles. Parking is available for a fee. If you are feeling energetic, get to the beach by walking from Bord du Lac Park and Lakefront Promenade, which takes about 30 minutes.
