"Thanks to Sure & Dave for being wonderful hosts. We enjoyed as a family and will definitely be coming back soon. We enjoyed the lovely walk, great hot breakfast (Thanks to the chef) with excellent coffee too. "This hotel accepted our booking via Hotels.com and it was still confirmed and prepaid up until arriving at the hotel. We were visiting from Australia and visiting relatives in Hawick, we rented a car in Edinburgh and drove there. We arrived early afternoon and found a handwritten note on the front door requesting guests to call a mobile phone on arrival. Whilst in the car park an employee arrived and said that he had no knowledge of our booking, I showed him my confirmation and he blamed...

"The bed was comfortable and clean. Nice decor. Chairs were not comfortable, too low. Nobody on the premises during the night. No emergency phone numbers supplied. Very little in the way of literature about the area. Security of residents’ rooms was questionable. Members of the public had access to the stairs near the front door to the bar."

"This is the second time I have stayed at the County and will use it again on future trips. Simple setup, codes to main door and bedroom. The room was clean and comfy, well stocked with teas and coffees and overall perfect for my needs."

"Great location, clean and comfortable room, but only after booking room did I find out that the hotel is not staffed and I would have to call to get an entry code, which required borrowing a bartender's phone to make the call, since I didn't have phone service in Scotland. All this happened very late in the day on a Sunday, where a missed call could have meant nowhere to stay in a small town. They need to change the procedure or give fair warning through Expedia before booking."

"We loved staying in this beautiful old hotel. The staff were so kind and treated us like we were the only ones there. The food was delicious and the head chef was so thoughtful that she put a vegetarian dish on the menu for me. We only planned to stay one or two nights but couldn’t bring ourselves to leave and ended up staying 4 nights. "

"What can I say , this place is amazing . We got there at 8pm on Friday and was greeted by Annette who was so lovley , she had warmed up the hot tub for us and everything was ready. We stayed in the little red gypsy caravan and it was so cute! Perfect for a couple. Also if you’re a bigger person and worry about beds , don’t worry about it here . I was worried as I am a size 20uk lady and the bed was fine for me and my partner. The place is dog friendly ( we met a little 4 leg friend) . It was all round such an amazing experience! There are showers , toilets and a little kitchen area , everything you need really. The caravan itself was off grid which was such a lovley touch but they had an electric point for you to charge items . I would 100% recommend this place , we drove from Barnsley ( 3.5 hours) and it was worth it! It’s about a hour ish from Edinburgh so we took a trip up there too. Again I can’t recommend it enough "

"The room I was in looked recently decorated certainly not in need of a makeover like last year. However what makes this such a great place to stay is definitely the staff. They are friendly and efficient, the restaurant staff especially appeared to enjoy their work and happily engaged in banter with the diners alongside doing their job well"
