Look out for celebrities and step inside television and radio studios at the U.K.’s first ever purpose-built media precinct. MediaCityUK is a creative zone housing television companies, including the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), independent filmmakers, studios and production facilities.
The hi-tech hub occupies 36 acres (15 hectares) at Salford Quays on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal. The first phase of this development was completed in 2011 and there are plans to increase the site to 200 acres (81 hectares) over the next decade.
As well as providing media professionals with a stimulating working environment, MediaCityUK has much to offer the visitor. Discover how some of the U.K.’s most popular television and radio programmes are put together by taking a tour of the BBC’s studios.
Become a member of a studio audience at one of the live or pre-record shows made here for various networks. Visit MediaCityUK’s official website to apply for free tickets. On the website you will also find details of cultural events that take place here throughout the year.
For an alternative viewing experience, sit in the 5-acre (2-hectare) piazza and watch programmes on the large public television screen. For something more cultural, head over to The Bridgewater Hall, home to the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. To get your free tickets to the orchestra’s performances, go to the BBC website.
MediaCityUK also has a large number of restaurants, bars and shops. Buy fresh and local produce from the piazza’s produce market. It’s held every third Thursday of the month.
Nature hasn’t been forgotten during the construction of this waterside venue. Stroll around the landscaped grounds, lie on the grass or relax among the flowers.
Situated at Salford Quays, MediaCityUK is a 2-minute drive from the nearest motorway network. Parking is available at The Garage multistory car park. Alternatively you can arrive by public transport. MediaCityUK is a 15-minute tram ride from the city centre.
