"The staff was top notch! I was booked into another hotel and made a last minute reservation Pablo and Pablo, who basically manage the hotel, are the most professionl, ooutstanding, and friendliest people you will met. The whole staff goes out of their way to make sure you have an excellent experience. The hotel has beautiful surroundings. The atmosphere is tranquil . I was in a room with a balcony that overlooked the pool and courtyard it had a wonderful view of the sunset. Plus the rooms where kept in immaculate condition. The hotel itself is located somewhat out from the downtown area but they will get you a cab for 5,000 paseos ($5) and even pick you up themselves if they could not get a cab back to the hotel. You could walk is about a 30 minte walk to town and the whole island is safe."

"The staff at Tupa hotel is very helpful and speak excellent English. This is not an island where you find luxury hotels. The facilities are well-worn and basic. Given you accept that, you would do well to book Tupa hotel for the kindness and service. Bed was comfortable. Storage plentiful. Location convenient and they were wonderful about picking me up at the airport and taking me back. On time and efficient. I had an ocean-side room with a sliding door that opened on a mini-patio. One thing you should know is that the cleaning person always left the sliding door open to air out the room. This helps prevent mildew in this tropical climate. So don't leave valuables lying around. This wasn't an issue for me since I don't travel with any valuables other than my passport and money, which I keep with me at all times. One thing I wish I knew before I went was that they can book you tours at the hotel. I booked separately and had an awful experience on the tours. Check with them about tours when you reach out to book. A beautiful island that is still rustic."

"The place is very open, peaceful, clean and very friendly, helpful accommodating staff. Breakfast is sufficient. Kenatea, the manager is very nice. Our flight is not until late in the afternoon and she let us stayed in our room until we are ready to leave for our flight. "

"Since this property is priced towards the lower end of the price spectrum, I was expecting it to be basic and no frills… The Good: - The property is situated close to corner stores (2 minutes), restaurants and souvenir shops (5-10 minutes), and the waterfront (15 minutes), if you don’t mind walking. - The wifi is strong, though a couple of times was hampered by power outages. - The room was spacious, and the bed was comfortable. The Okay: - The room became very hot during the day. Opening the large front window helped with ventilation, but didn’t have a screen, so mosquitoes were able to enter. A floor fan would have been nice to help cool the room off. - The room had a kitchenette, but was very limited in the amount of pots, pans and basic accessories, making the preparation of meals challenging. The Bad: - The property has great potential, but overall has been allowed to fall into disrepair. The grounds are untended and badly overgrown, and the room and bathroom were very dirty and in need of both a terminal cleaning, and basic repairs. This is well beyond what would be expected of a basic, low cost accommodation. - I was told that the property had 24 hour hot water availability, but I did not have hot water for the entire duration of my stay. Cold showers, after a few days, lose their appeal. For those looking for basic, economical accommodation, I would suggest looking elsewhere, as I cannot recommend staying here. "

"Hotel Hatu Matua is exactly what we wanted: affordable, clean, pleasant, delightful gardens, kind, helpful staff, walkable to town center. We had a pleasant stay. Laundry was sent out and returned promptly. All good! I’d stay again."
