Walk along the banks of Kaohsiung’s cultural core, where you will find a night market, a harbor and scenic parks.

As the Love River meanders its way through the heart of Kaohsiung, rows of green vegetation sprout from its banks. The trees and plants bordering the river belong to large parks that are ideal for family picnics and a brief repose from the hustle of city life. Stroll hand in hand with your sweetheart in this romantic spot to discover why it is called the Love River.

Ride along the cycle path on a bike you can select from one of the rental stations in the city. Appreciate the greenery of the parks beside the river as you wander along the banks. The Love River Park is a vast area of picturesque gardens where you can forget the noise of the city.

Stay to watch the sun go down over the sparkling blue river and see the sky change hues. Many parts of the river offer panoramic views of the skyscrapers in Kaohsiung’s business district. Admire the flashing lights of the city’s nightlife in the evening. Visit the night market to sample delicious Taiwanese delicacies.

Many cafés and restaurants along the riverbanks are open for long hours. Stop and enjoy a brief break over a traditional Taiwanese tea or a cup of coffee. Capture photos of the wide river and its elegant bridges.

Take a trip on a riverboat. Spot some of the city’s most intriguing attractions, such as the Kaohsiung Bridge and the Holy Rosary Cathedral.

The site is known by local residents as Ai He and was formerly called Dagou River and Takao River. It flows for 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) from the outskirts of the city to Kaohsiung Harbour.

Love River runs through the city from north to southwest. Its scenic promenade is near the Kaohsiung Harbour in the city center. Take the metro to either the Yanchengpu Station or the City Council Station and walk a few blocks to reach the river. Nearby attractions include Central Park and the Kaohsiung Museum of History.
