"Our room in the square block (we’d seen the unnecessary negative reviews before we’d arrived) behind the pretty white main house, came as a very pleasant surprise. The room was newly furnished, to a high standard and spotlessly clean. Positive feedback….great for one night, but a little more storage or even a couple more wall hooks to pop coats and hang towels etc are needed. The real added bonus was the lovely warm pool, hot, hot-tub and steam & sauna rooms, just perfect, when you’ve been outdoors all day! Breakfast was good quality and plentiful. Sausage & bacon could’ve been cooked a little longer for me to be honest and the hot plate needed turning up to keep the buffet food hot. The toaster made nice warm bread (these are again meant as positive criticisms) The pastries were really good and a nice selection of fruit. All the staff were extremely friendly and the whole place had a very welcoming feel. For the price we paid it really was great value and I would have no hesitation in recommending or re-booking this hotel when we are next in the area. Many thanks! "

"We weren't expecting much from this hotel but were pleasantly surprised. The room was excellent value for money and was nicer than anticipated. Yes, this is an older hotel and it shows in places, but everything was clean and tidy. We booked a twin Premium room which had nice extras such as robes & slippers provided. The twin beds were almost touching which was fine for us as we're good friends but perhaps would be a bit weird if you were sharing with a colleague, for example. We had problems with the aircon not staying on for more than a couple of minutes. Not a big problem in December - we just opened a window - but I imagine would be very uncomfortable in the summer months. There were a few other niggles - there was a coffee machine in the room but no coffee pods supplied and we only received one pack of complimentary biscuits (so 3 custard creams to share between the two of us). The bathroom is quite small but fine for a single person at a time. The shower is a walk-in style enclosure with pleasant complimentary toiletries (shower gel, shampoo and conditioner). I found the shower pressure a little weak. The pool and gym are both quite small but adequate for a short stay. The pool was clean and warm - unfortunately the hot tub was out of order. All of the staff were very welcoming and we genuinely felt welcome here. I will look forward to staying again."

"The George is steeped in beautiful Architecture, History, and beautiful design and decor. The staff were extremely polite, helpful and engaging. The food was excellent. The Breakfast Room is Lovely as is the Bar area. Gerry, who always has time to have a conversation and is a very engaging, charming character / Manager of this beautiful Coaching Inn. The rooms are delightful, with excellent decor and a very comfortable bed for a good nights sleep. Would I go back - most certainly I / we would. Much prefer such a place to stay than a modern, soulless, characterless other Modern type Hotel or Inn. I promise you, you will not be disappointed. "
