"Although we were aware that the hotel was closing we still expected 4 star accommodation as that is what we paid for. The pool and terrace area were in a very bad state of disrepair and the pool area unusable. We asked for an upgrade to a sea view as there road works at the front of the building and therefore noisy but were told ( 6 hrs after asking and having to ask again)that no rooms were available although the hotel was clearly far from busy. "Absolutely magnificent commanding views of the mediterranean from the rooms, bar and restaurant. Very friendly staff who all spoke both English and Spanish. To my mind it has a lovely sort of golden age of Britain feel to it, which made me quite nostalgic. It's probably fair to say that we had a four, rather than a five star experience overall, but Gibraltar isn't overloaded with very high-end hotels, so I can highly recommend it.
