Fano is part of the Wadden Sea and is the perfect place to experience the wild nature of West Jutland. Swim at the beach, and savour fresh oysters whilst watching shore birds and seals.

Holidays to Fano can be many different things depending on how you want to spend your time. There are opportunities to watch birds, visit the modern art galleries or museums and much, much more. The main attraction is unquestionably the wildlife and the wide sandy beaches, where you can easily spend your entire holiday swimming, flying kites, collecting amber and soaking up the sun.

Fano is part of The Wadden Sea National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the large number of fish, birds and seals that can be found here, and this wildlife can be experienced everywhere. Embark on a seal safari where you set sail to the sand banks where the grey seals of the area are basking, or explore Nordby Harbour where they are also known to be seen.

Nordby is also the home of Fano Museum and The Fano Shipping and Costume Collection, which shows you the different parts of the island's fascinating history as a maritime community. If you haven’t had enough of history and culture, you can head to the southern tip of Fano, where the village of Sonderho houses Fano Art Gallery, The Sonderho Mill from 1895 and the skipper house Hanne's House.

The best time to visit Fano is in the summer, when you can make the most out of the beaches. Do you want to learn how to windsurf, go oyster hunting, kayaking or hurtle off across the sand in the entertaining land yachts called blokarts?

If you are on holiday in Fano with children, they will absolutely love to fly kites on the coast, and compete in who can collect the most amber on Fano’s southern beaches, where there is an abundance of “the gold of the North" As well as this, the summer months offers many competitions and festivals. For example, the Fano Knitting Festival with more than 10,000 visitors, the Fano Storytelling Festival and the traditional Fano Kite Festival.

There is only one way to get to a weekend break in Fano from the mainland, and that is by ferry connection between Esbjerg and Nordby. The ferry sails several times a day, all year round, and the trip across the water lasts no more than 12 minutes. Esbjerg is located 40 miles south-west of Billund Airport, from which bus 44 takes you to Esbjerg in one hour and 20 minutes, about once per hour. You may also be lucky enough to find a flight to the tiny Esbjerg Airport located just 9 miles from the harbour.

You will want to return every year once you have experienced the nature and relaxed atmosphere of Fano.
