This 800-metre stretch of sand is located just north of Jomtien Beach, and offers visitors a more laid-back alternative to the resort-filled beaches further south. This wide beach is surrounded by trees, and the road directly behind the beach is for pedestrians only, keeping traffic noise to a minimum.
Although Dongtan Beach is open to everyone, it is particularly popular with same-sex male couples. However you will see people of all ages and sexes, as well as families, enjoying the calm waters and laid-back vibe.
Dongtan Beach is great for water sports, with everything from windsurfing to para-sailing in the clear blue ocean. You can also indulge in a spot of fishing, as grouper, trevally and barracuda are often caught in the area. At the end of the day, take your catch up to one of the beachside restaurants where they will be happy to clean and cook it for you.
Hire a chair or sun-lounger from one of the stalls, sit back and relax for the day. You will have to pay a little more for a sun lounger nearer the shoreline. The water is calm and safe for swimming, and has been clearly marked out.
There’s a selection of good restaurants, cafes and cars at the beach, so take your pick and order some fresh seafood and a refreshing cocktail for lunch. The beach is a great place for people watching. You can also get a traditional Thai massage at Dongtan Beach, although keep in mind that most of the massage therapists here are men.
Dongtan Beach is situated between Jomtien Beach and Pattaya South, and if you’re driving, you can park your car on Jomtien Beach Road.
