We had an odd and disappointing experience here, which ended on a very bad note.
On the positive side, the hotel location is quiet and walkable to local attractions. The common areas of the hotel are elegant and well-appointed with comfortable sitting areas and a beautiful courtyard garden. But there is a notable disparity between the elegance of common areas and the lackluster quality of the rooms. We had a "deluxe" room but both the room and the king bed were small. The bathroom had a faint but distinctive septic odor. The walls of the rooms were thin and on our last night we could clearly hear the television of the room next door at midnight, which was disturbing in a so-called 5-star hotel. Hotel Hospes Palacio de Bailio is not a 5 star hotel. We had previously stayed in a 5-star hotel in Seville that was truly a perfect experience and the contrast was stark.
On our last day, as I was opening the sliding closet doors to get my suitcase, suddenly a decorative board (approx. 4 feet by 1 foot) fell off the wall above the closet and hit me in the head. My hand was scratched in several places by nails sticking out of the board. It was extremely frightening. Luckily I did not have a concussion, but honestly I could have been severely injured given that the board was substantial. Just thinking about it now, I feel shaky and unsettled.
