Appreciate the skills of up and coming and established local, national and international artists at the CityArts Factory. The downtown cultural hub houses an art studio, six art galleries and a performance space all under one roof.
Wander from gallery to gallery to see collections of prints, paintings, sculptures, photographs and drawings. Works are rotated regularly and new exhibitions are presented throughout the year. Many of the pieces are available for purchase. Occasionally, you will be able watch artwork being created at the Orlando Magic Classroom, a studio space for working artists. Between your tour of the galleries, stop at the cosy café and relax with a coffee and a fresh pastry.
On the third Thursday of every month, CityArts Factory is one of the many venues in the downtown arts district that participates in the 3rd Thursday Gallery Hop. Browse the galleries for new works and then visit some of the area's restaurants and stores that display art during the hop. There are also street artists, dance troupes and bands performing all over the arts district.
Reserve a seat for an improvised comedy performance at the SAK Comedy Lab. The 250-seat venue is on the second floor of the CityArts Factory and has been the launch pad of writers and actors of some of America’s most famous sitcoms such as The Office and 30 Rock. There are performances on most nights of the week, and to see who’s on, visit the lab’s website. If you are staying in Orlando for a considerable length of time, sign up for the weekly improv classes and encourage the comedy performer in you to emerge.
CityArts Factory is open every day except Sunday and Monday and admission is free. The cultural venue is situated in the downtown district, close to many bus lines. There is metered parking at the nearby Plaza Cinema Garage. To qualify for a discounted rate, get your parking voucher validated at the cultural attraction’s welcome desk.
