Enjoy the beauty and history of Montenegro’s biggest resort, where a labyrinthine Old Town, magnificent beaches and chic restaurants await.

Budva is one of Montenegro’s favorite vacation destinations. Beaches fringe the long Budva Riviera, along which hotels, restaurants and bars bring a joyful, easygoing atmosphere. Wander the streets of the magnificent Stari Grad (Old Town), lounge on the beaches that line the Budva Riviera or spot celebrities in the bars and restaurants of upscale resorts.

Located just south of Croatia’s famous town of Dubrovnik, Budva is growing. The sparkling blue-green water and clean beaches combine with historic Old Town and modern facilities to create an irresistible destination. Stay within the medieval walls of Budva, where chic cafés line the waterfront or head out to one of the newer developments.

Old Town is located on a small peninsula with many cultural highlights tucked away along its narrow streets. Seek out the Church of Sveta Trojica, Church of Sveti Ivan and Church of Sveta Bogorodica or visit the stores, galleries and restaurants. The Monastery of Stanjevici is also interesting.

Make a daytrip to Sveti Stefan, which is 3 miles (6 kilometers) away. It is almost an island, joined to the mainland by a sand spit, and is utterly picturesque. Most of the island is today part of the Aman Sveti Stefan island-hotel but you can see the Villa Miločer, the former summer residence of Queen Marija Karađorđević, and pretty little King's Beach.

For something a little closer, visit Sveti Nikola, a small island just off Budva’s coast. Hop in a taxi-boat from the promenade and enjoy a day exploring the pinewoods, kayaking the coastline or savoring fresh fish in one of the restaurants.

Budva is 12 miles (19 kilometers) from Tivat Airport, 40 miles (64 kilometers) from Podgorica and 60 miles (96 kilometers) from Dubrovnik, meaning you have plenty of flight options. Arrange taxis or private shuttle transfers to reach the resort. Most of the main town is easily walkable. To get farther away, rent a car or use the efficient public transportation system.

We ate in Konoba Stari Grad, a restaurant in the old town, which is very classy, a little expensive but worth it!

Enough going on but not too busy.

I loved Budva. It has the charm and lovely restaurant and bars in the old town with two good beaches tucked around the side of it. Night life was really good too although they were clearly shutting down for the season.

3/5 - Okay

It's a great day for a day visit with its marina, old town and Mogren beach. If you're a hedonist and love partying then summer months provide what you need. Montenegro offers quieter places outside Budva and less developed. The culture is welcoming

Budva for us was a mistake, we didn’t understand its a party place. Kotor was a much better option!
