The property is a beautiful old hotel / restaurant in a picturesque village. We booked rooms and a table for a family Christmas meal 3 months in advance. This was the mid point for those living in the North of England and those living in the South. Three days before we arrived we were informed there was a Christmas party with disco booked to go on until about midnight and there maybe some noise, what we didn’t realize was that the disco would be held in the reception / bar area which meant we would have nowhere to go to chat after our meal. The day before our meal we had a call asking us to move our booking from 7.30pm to 6pm due to the party. We reluctantly compromised on 6.30 given that we all had a minimum 3 hour journey to the venue for some the time change was tight given other commitments. The hotel could have warned us long before about the party and the need to change our plans a cynic might say they left it to the last minute knowing it would be difficult ult for us to find alternative accommodation and a table for 8 somewhere comparable and so we would have to accept the change of plans imposed on us by the hotel and the noise from the disco which meant sleep was interrupted! Had high hopes and the staff and food were excellent and the hotel is lovely but the way we were treated is very disappointing and it’s not big enough to accommodate a disco in what is a small reception / bar area without inconveniencing everyone else staying at the hotel.
