In making them affordable for the mass market compromises have to be made and with the Palace Hotel this shows in some of the areas of decor. The ‘Spa’ was a limited experience- a small weights room, an excellent steam room and sauna but the pool was cold and there was no “jacuzzi”. "The room was a non smoking room yet it had a ashtray on the dresser (which was dirty with cigarette ash) the trouser press was loosely fitted to wall with one screw and u/s a number of the pictures affixed to the wall were UPSIDE-DOWN, and the room carpet was without a relationship with a vacuum cleaner.
